Have you always dreamed of becoming a poet? How about a novelist, journalist or children's story writer? Have you written fiction or articles you are afraid to publish? What if you're the next J.K. Rowling but have cold feet?
Don't be frightened. Behind Our Eyes is a writing group just for you. We meet via telephone twice a month on Sunday evenings at 8 p.m. Eastern. Some weeks speakers such as playwrights, editors, grant writers, poets, bloggers and teachers present tips on their craft and answer questions. Sometimes we critique each other's short works from previously suggested prompts. Currently we are working toward production of a second anthology of our group's writings.
One of our members also started a publishing support group which encourages members by sharing individual success stories and advice for staving off frustration over rejection letters. Tips for where to publish abound and problem-solving techniques are given whenever a participant asks for assistance.
In order to join our group, you must disclose your disability, provide contact information and have a strong desire to see your name in print or braille or on BARD -- or anywhere, for that matter. We are informal and welcome anyone who is eager to learn. We believe each one of us has something important to contribute.
If interested, please contact Elisa Busch via e-mail, [email protected], phone (571) 257-7355, address: 300 Yoakum Pkwy., Apt. #622, Alexandria, VA 22304.
Pick up your computer, notetaker, braille writer, pen, slate and stylus -- whatever you have -- and set your course toward publication.
