This wine is round and plush Black Chicken Zinfandel with a gentle grip of perfectly ripe tannins. A spectrum of red and dark fruits – raspberries, cherries, blackberries, bright vivid aromas, fine-grained texture, star anise, black and white pepper, cocoa, subtle nuanced oak. Age worthy, compelling, decadent: a beautifully proportioned Napa Valley Zinfandel. If cellared well, this wine will continue to improve for the next 3-5 years.
2019 R.W. MOORE VINEYARD
Coombsville, Napa Valley Zinfandel
Heritage on Hagen
Historic Hagen Road runs east-west across Napa Valley’s Coombsville Appellation. Close to San Francisco Bay, this newly recognized rural district near the city of Napa is quickly gaining recognition for producing many elegant, polished, and finely balanced wines from many varieties – red and whites – that speak to the region’s cool and hilly conditions in southern Napa Valley.
The Moore Vineyard lies smack dab in the district’s middle on Hagen Road adjacent to Sarcos Creek with a looming Mt. George to the east. This is where the family of a seafarer by the name of Pleasant Ashley Stevens planted vines in 1905. Most of those vines still exist today thanks to the dedicated farming and wisdom of Bill Moore, a retired orthodontist, who purchased the property as his first home in the 1980s. This is the oldest vineyard in Coombsville and amazingly enough – the region’s only Zinfandel.
This vineyard is especially important to the wine industry now as its genetic heritage is being carefully preserved and propagated through the U.C. Davis Heritage Vineyard project. In other words, the genetic material from these historic vines is being saved for future generations of winemakers. In the meantime, we get to enjoy the immense pleasures that this Zinfandel brings.

141 Three 2022 Hallmark “Ornament Club” Keepsake Ornaments Donated by Leslie Charlson
Ornament One: “Countdown to Christmas”
This ornament hanger is 5-1/2 inches tall, 3-3/4 inches wide, and 1-1/2 inches deep. A tiny red cardinal sits on the snow-covered roof. The roof is held up, on either side, by split Birch tree trunks that frame in two blocks used to count down days until Christmas. The space just below the roof peak has a hook to hang a small ornament (included) for display, just above the numbered blocks. The blocks are marked with large, tactile numbers that are removable to rotate and reset the countdown days until Christmas. The entire ornament can be hung on a tree, set on a mantle, or placed on the dinner table.
Ornament Two: “Polar Bear Pal”
This ornament is able to hang inside the first ornament from the hook below the roof peak. A small polar bear stands 2-1/4 inches tall, 1-1/4 inches wide, holding a sack of ice-frosted pinecones slung over his shoulder. The little bear is wearing a blue Santa-style hat with matching blue shirt with white fluffy trim. He is standing on a small snowbank.
Ornament Three: “Polar Bear Santa”
The largest ornament in the trio is Polar Bear Santa standing 5 inches tall, 2-1/2 inches wide facing forward, and 3-1/2 inches deep. The father bear is wearing a traditional Santa suit with a black belt with a large gold buckle. He is standing upright, with an ax over one shoulder, and a fresh-cut evergreen tree over the other shoulder. Sitting upon the tree on dad’s shoulder is the little polar bear wearing a blue Santa suit. His face is framed within a holiday wreath with a bright red bow at his chin. The evergreens are frosted with glitter. By pressing the button on Santa’s belt, you will hear him speak several holiday messages including “Ho, Ho, Ho, how many days to go!.”
All three ornaments are in original packaging, and they come with a Hallmark Keepsake reusable holiday bag, and an enameled keychain that has a polar bear on it, with the words “Snow Much Fun!” On an icy blue background.
142 Homemade Dinner for Six Donated by ACB Development Director Bill Reeder
Enjoy this scrumptious meal that features: Boeuf Bourguignon (Beef Burgundy) Stew, a loaf of homemade sourdough bread, homemade apple pie and a bottle each of good red and white wine. Made famous by Julia Child, the beef is marinated in red wine and vegetables for 12 hours, then slow roasted in the oven and finished with a garnish of sautéed mushrooms, bacon bits and pearl onions. I will add potatoes and carrots to round out the stew, making it a complete meal. The stew will be divided into 3 portions - so it can be enjoyed as a dinner for 6 or for 2. The sourdough bread will be made using the method perfected by the Tartine bakery in San Francisco. The apple pie is a classic Kansas farm recipe. A bottle of highly rated red and white will accompany the meal and will arrive separately from the dinner. The dinner will be packed frozen in dry ice and hopefully arrive still frozen. Wow, what a treat to receive this package over the holidays!

Start cooking like a pro with the Sous Vide Nano. Sous vide is a cooking technique for ingredients inside a vacuum-sealed plastic pouch, submerged in a pot of water, usually for a long period of time at a low, steady temperature. Sous vide has been a secret in professional kitchens for decades. It works by circulating heated water in a pot at a very precise temperature according to the desired doneness of your meat, fish, or vegetables. The heating element clamps to the side of a pot, extends down into the water roughly ten inches. This simple and approachable technique eliminates overcooked, dried out food and ensures edge-to-edge perfection every time you cook!
