1. Hello, fellow members of ACB! My name is Cecily Laney Nipper. Hailing from Covington, Georgia, I wish to run for a full term on the ACB Board of Directors, where I have served for the past year. As president of my state affiliate, and as an active member of the ACB Convention, Auction, Get Up Get Moving, ACB STRONG, and ACB Media committees, I have a passion to serve you, the membership, through an open door policy and with courage to speak up when there are issues that need to be addressed. It would be an honor to represent you for my first full term on the ACB Board of Directors, and I ask for your vote.

2. At the state level, my strongest contribution to the Georgia Council of the Blind has been sponsorship and fundraising for my affiliate conventions, a skill that I also bring to the ACB Auction and Get Up Get Moving. Using my experience and organizational skills to chair or co-chair state conventions for the past five years, we have had great events. I believe these skills are transferrable to work on the ACB Board.

3. ACB’s mission “To increase the independence, security, equality of opportunity, and quality of life for all blind and visually impaired people,” can be expounded on in a number of different ways. The accessibility piece is vital in technology, in jobs, and in access to rehabilitation services. This is what we fight for and what I will continue to fight for if elected. With each decision I have made while serving, I have considered all of our members, and that is what I will continue to do if elected.

4. I will take the liberty of listing two of the important challenges facing ACB: that of budget, and that of human resources. We have been a strong organization for many years. That has not come without a lot of hard work from many faithful members and leaders. We must be willing to consider our approach, and our budget, to meet the challenging demands of this hybrid world. Technology has provided many opportunities, and we must build on those. ACB is in a time of transition when it comes to the board seats up for election and to those staff positions recently filled. Let’s work together to support our staff and meet our mission. As volunteers, we give our time on committees, at state and special interest affiliates, and local chapters. These human resources are what will keep ACB strong in this new world.
