Spring Affiliate Conventions

April 6-9: California Council of the Blind convention at the Hilton Woodland Hills/Los Angeles, 6360 Canoga Avenue, Woodland Hills, CA 91367. April 21-23:
Iowa Council of the United Blind state convention at the Holiday Inn & Suites, 4800 Merle Hay Road, in Des Moines. Guest speakers include Karen Keninger, formerly head of Iowa’s Library, and now Director of the National Library Services for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, and Marty Schultz, the creator of Blindfold Games. Room rates are as follows:
double queen or king executive room, $86; junior or extended stay suite, $126; family king suite, $146. Rates cited do not include taxes of 12%.  The deadline to receive the special group rate is March 31, 2017.  Call 1-800-465-4329 and ask for the ICUB special rate.  Assistance for transportation for member attendees from throughout the state is available upon request.

April 22:
The Arizona Council of the Blind will hold the 2017 Annual Membership Business Meeting on Saturday, April 22nd from 10:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Arizona Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ACBVI) 3100 East Roosevelt Street, Phoenix, AZ 85008. The membership will consider election of board officers as well as conducting other business of the organization. This will include state and national reports. There is no fee for this activity and refreshments as well as lunch will be provided at no cost to the membership. This meeting is open to AZCB members in good standing. In good standing means a member’s dues are paid for the current year and he or she is eligible to vote. April 29-30:
Georgia Council of the Blind convention at the Ramada Inn Lanier Centre, 400 EE Butler Parkway, Gainesville, GA 30501; phone (770) 531-0907. There will be a tour to the Northeast Georgia History Center on Friday, April 28th, and tandem biking on Saturday, April 29th. Friday evening there will be a welcome reception held at the hotel, beginning at 7 p.m. and ending at 9. The guest speaker this year will be Matt Simpson, a silver medalist at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro.  The reception will include finger foods and beverages.  After the reception, there will be a live auction of theme-filled baskets and items donated by chapters and at-large members. Saturday will feature informative programming throughout the day. There will be a luncheon filled with great food and fun! GCB board members and guests will wrap-up with a business meeting. June 1-4:
Florida Council of the Blind convention at the Lexington Riverwalk Hotel and Conference Center, 1515 Prudential Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32207. Call 904-396-5100 or 877-539-7070 to make reservations. Room rates are $85.00 per night. A complimentary breakfast is included. Watch for more information.
June 9-11:
North Dakota Association of the Blind convention at the Great American Inn and Suites, 1116 Highway 2 East, Devils Lake, ND 58301; phone (701) 662-4001. Room rates are $71.50 per night. Deadline for room reservations is May 1.  For reservations, call (701) 662-4001 by May 1 and ask for a room for the “NDAB Convention” as soon as possible. Each room has a refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot and hair dryer. Note: There are no elevators in this 2-story hotel. A limited number of volunteers will be available to initially help locate both meeting and hotel rooms and assist during scheduled coffee breaks.
Registration documents will be mailed to all NDAB members. You must return your completed convention registration form and payment by May 20. Come and journey with us as we “Spice Up Our Life” in Devils Lake and beyond!
