What could be more prestigious than being selected as one of two promising leaders in the nation? If you are a member in good standing of ACB or one of its affiliates, at least 18 years of age and have never attended the national conference and convention, then you may be the ideal candidate to enjoy the prestige of recognition as a DKM first-timer.
Continuing a 15-year tradition, the Durward K. McDaniel First Timer committee will select two qualifying members - one from east and one from west of the Mississippi River - to attend the national conference and convention in Reno in July 2011 as guests of the committee and ACB. Transportation, lodging, registration, special events tickets and a meal stipend are provided to each DKM recipient.
To apply for the first-timer award, you must do the following: submit a personal narrative describing how the award will benefit you, your affiliate and your community; and submit a letter of sponsorship from the president of your state or special-interest affiliate. The deadline for receiving both letters at the ACB national office is April 1, 2011. The committee will review submissions from qualified applicants and select the winners after the April 1 deadline.
Copies of the DKM guidelines have been circulated to the ACB leadership list. If you have questions about the program, contact your state or special-interest affiliate president or the committee chair, Allen Casey, at [email protected].
