The Mid-Tennessee Council of the Blind (MTCB) will once again host the TCB State convention in Nashville TN.
Our 2011 TN Council of the Blind state convention is fast approaching. Plan now to come and join us. Our theme will be "Sail the Seas of Opportunity with TCB."
The convention will take place in Nashville August 26 - 28 at the Comfort Suites. The address is 2521 Elm Hill Pike, Nashville, TN 37214.
Directions to the Comfort Suites:
From I-40 east or west, take Briley Parkway North to Exit 7, Elm Hill Pike. Turn right on Elm Hill Pike and hotel is 3/4 mile on the right.
Hotel Reservations can be made by calling 615.391.3919. Please be sure and state that you will be attending the Tennessee Council of the Blind Convention. Room rates are $79.99 plus tax for rooms with king-size beds. A few accessible rooms with queen size beds are available for the same price. Rooms with two double beds are $89.99 plus tax per night. Every room contains a pull out sofa bed, refrigerator, microwave, free high-speed Internet and much more! Room rates are based on double occupancy. Add $10 plus tax for each additional person in the room. The hotel is 100% nonsmoking.
Hotel reservations must be made no later than July 30, 2011.
Convention registration will begin Friday at 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and then again Saturday morning beginning at 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. The convention registration fee is $15.00 and the banquet fee is $20.00 for a total price of $35.00 These events can be purchased separately for those not wishing to attend both events. Anyone paying at the door for either event will pay an extra $5.00.
However, for all convention attendees who pre-register and opt to pay the total package of $35.00 you will get a bonus of dinner on Friday night and lunch on Saturday at no additional charge. Please mark this option clearly on your pre-registration form. If you do not, you will be on your own for these meals. The hotel has no restaurant. A free deluxe continental breakfast buffet is offered daily starting at 6:00 am till 9:30 am on Friday and 6:00 am till 10:00 a.m. on the weekends.
Badges will be issued for those who register for the convention, and the badges must be worn for admission to convention activities. Tickets will be issued for the banquet and must be presented at the door for admission.

Friday night dinner will be pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans and potato salad. Saturday lunch will be a box lunch (please be sure to check your sandwich preference on the preregistration form.) The "Sails the Seas of Opportunity with TCB" banquet menu includes: tropical spring salad with citrus vinaigrette dressing, marinated chicken breast, with grilled pineapple, broccoli/rice casserole, rolls with butter, and assorted beverages and desserts.
Remember, our annual auction is our most substantial fundraising effort, so please do your part by bringing quality items. Let's make this our biggest and best ever!
On Friday evening, the Memphis Chapter will host bingo, followed by Part 1 of our annual auction. Come early and stay late! Please don't forget to bring bingo prizes and those ever popular door prizes! Your donations are greatly appreciated.
We also need nominations for The Dave L. Day and Helen Wild awards. Dave L. Day nominees should be sighted individuals who are advocates for the blind and assist with their challenges. The nominees for the two awards listed above must be received no later than July 31, 2011.
