From the President

Dear Conventioneers:

I want to welcome everyone to the 54th annual conference and convention of the American Council of the Blind here in exciting Dallas, Texas.  I am looking forward to presiding over my second convention as president of ACB, and to speak with so many members and guests from across the country and, in fact, from around the world.

The theme of the 2015 convention is "ACB: Where the Stars Shine Bright.”

This is a great theme for this year's convention since we are in the state where all the stars shine brighter than anywhere else – including the thousands of ACB stars!
You will hear much more about ACB’s successes during what should be our busiest and most information-packed convention ever.

Every ACB convention relies on scores of volunteers who work to make this event possible.  I want to personally thank the members of the Convention Committee, ably chaired by Janet Dickelman; the Convention Program Committee, and the Dallas Host Committee for their efforts.  I know my fellow ACB board members also wish to express their appreciation to everyone who assisted in putting together this convention.  Likewise, let me acknowledge the work of our Arlington, VA and Minneapolis, MN staff.  You are all fabulous!

Finally, a very warm welcome to those of you attending the ACB convention for the first time.  Texas is a place that leaves a special spot in your heart.  Thirty years ago, I attended graduate school for my master’s degree in library science at the University of North Texas in Denton, TX (about forty miles north of Dallas).  Whether this is your first trip to Texas, or a return visit, I can assure you that you will leave with many new friends and treasured memories.

I know your time in Dallas at the ACB convention will be an especially memorable and fun experience.  We want you to come back in 2016 and join us in Minneapolis!
From Brian and me, have a great convention and stop and say "Hello" when you see us dashing by during the week.

Best Wishes,
Kim Charlson, ACB President
