EDV is an experimental method of creating described video, whereby
the identification of key visual elements are incorporated into the
original production of the program, such that traditional DV is not
In essence, the program is produced from the onset in consultation and collaboration with an experienced describer in order for blind and visually impaired audiences to understand and enjoy it without the addition of traditional DV.
The purpose of EDV is to achieve a fully inclusive television viewing experience for both the sighted and non-sighted viewers simultaneously. It was initially created specifically for AMI-tv's audience, though EDV principles can be implemented among mainstream media productions.

AMI Canada's Four Senses culinary series, which premiered on January 24, 2014, featuring "Top Chef Canada" winner Carl Heinrich and Gordon Ramsey's "MasterChef" Season 3 winner Christine Ha, who is visually impaired. While this show is only aired in Canada, AMI is investigating making podcasts available for download.
